The book Wintergirls overall is a good book it deals with an issue that for many young girls and very few boys deal with growing up in today’s society. Being a teen and not having positive people or someone to talk to in general can be hard this book from what I have read is very good because it breaks down every little detail of the character Lia who is left behind to think about her life after her best friend which whom she competes to be the thinnest dies……this book not only talk and reveals the big picture of eating disorders but it also details Lia behavior so if you know someone with this disorder after reading this book you more than likely will have a better understanding of what is going on I would recommend this novel to another person because it is the real deal I like how they introduce the internet and how there are actual websites that support this obsession with being thin this is a mental disease that affect million of teens …millions of teens abuse prescription drugs to as a way to escape the overall message the author is trying to bring to her story is unique and it almost seem as though she could have dealt with this personally. By telling the book from Lia's head — and the haunting from the dead best friend this book is on a whole other level and it just puts on blast all the different sick communities out there in the world that support being sick and it is sad over all I’d recommend this novel.

what I am learning from the text
What I have learned so far from what I have read is that there are things in life or obstacles that we all as human beings have to overcome as a teen in High school I too faced issues not with eating but with self esteem which has a lot to do with what can lead to eating disorders and not feeling good about yourself and not having confidence or support to help a person overcome whatever is making them unhappy and in the end they feel alone. I’m learning that as a parent myself we should always pay close attention when we suspects signs that our children are unhappy as I am reading the text it’s almost as if Lia is ignored half the time by her step mother and her father which a lot of times when there is a divorce and parents move on to another relationship and a different step parent enters a home it almost as a child gets ignored this seems to be Lia case she is alone and finds comfort in her friend who is also experiencing the same issues and together they think they can solve it but just make it worse I have learned that it’s ok to be different and to never be ashamed to admit you have an issue because it could lead to death or being hurt and I know that while I am raising my son that I will be more involved and will not shut him out if I get another relationship or even more children.

Lia seems to me to be a confused girl typical for the common teen who is trying to live this lifestyle that she thinks is acceptable just because she looks a certain way she and her best friend compete to be the thinnest. She is so confused by this ideal dream to be thin and beautiful that they allow the disease to take over and it eventually kills her friend Cassie she to me is comes off as a weak girl who is hiding behind her eating to make herself someone she not .As I read on in the novel Lia begins to understand the troubles and even explain her and Cassie relationship she claims that she was the friend who understood what being ignored felt like because just like Cassie her best friend who dies they both feel like their parents don’t pay them attention which to me could be a key reason why they are having all these crazy teen breakdowns I think Lia is a good friend to Cassie because of the trouble she seems to going through is easy to relate and understand. At the same time she is offering all the support to Cassie and Cassie seems to think her problems are because of Lia this could turn Lia into a selfish person but who knows what will come of this whole friendship we know she dies but I’m not sure how Lia is going to handle how Cassie and her parent feel about her influence.

I personally have not read the whole book but from what I can tell the Title winter girls refers to the two main characters Lia and Cassie who both have eating disorders and one end up dying from the disease competing against each other they let this overcome one another I think Winter girls relate to the whole idea that these two girls have this secret and no one knows how alone and cold the pain this disease is bring to them which eventually leads to death. There is a quote the author uses that kind of explains the title more it is you are not dead but you are not alive you’re a winter girl…..it’s like this is what the author thinks young women who also battle with the same thing are symbolic to. Blinded by the competitive dysfunctional desire it leads to real death not only is this hard but its sick it is truly something young women should be aware of!

review of the book
The book Liar was not particular my favorite book as far as its content t did have a unique stlye of writing and the concept was good as well it was to me a different style of writing that I was not use to I do give the author her props because it was a page turner only because you wanted to know if the main character Micah was actually telling the truth and the book tricks you to believe that she is telling the truth but in the end she is just a teenage girl who is a patilogical liar ad can not help herself from lying about things and events in her life although we know that there is no such thing as a werewolf, Micah actually reveals to the readers that she is not only a wolf but that she changes over time back and forth when she come on or around the time of her menstral cycle.I sort of have mixed feelings about this book in the sense that someone else might enjoy it, I would recommend the book to those who like to read and enjoy unique styles of writiing. My personal choice I would not suggest it randomly to someone because I could not get into the book it was just to difficult with the jumping back and forth and kind of ridulous once you get past the climax of the story when she starts to reveal the lies. I would have rather the author just told the story in a more traditonal stlye of writing then to jump back in forth i didnt like that part about the book overall it was ok just not something I'd read again.

Letter to Micah
Dear Micah,
I’m sorry that you have just found out that you are a wolf, I can’t imagine what you have went through before your father decided to tell you what you really are and if in fact they did lock you up because of the change then I am sorry about that as well. It’s kind of hard to believe what you are telling us I didn’t even know there was a such thing as werewolf’s that change from humans to wolves …wow that crazy! I wanted to know why you hated your little brother so much it can’t be because he was not born with the fur. I also want to know why your relationship with your father is so difficult as you would call it and why you feel closer to your mother even though you don’t really talk about her as much? When you are at school why do you seem to want to be unnoticed is it because of the fur that you feel people will judge you. I actually think if you would have spent time talking and opening up you would actually find out people are not as closed minded as you think. And I forgot to mention your Uncle Hilliard that is crazy how you thought he was the family dog and how he is not dead he is actually a wolf that does not change anymore. That must be so weird that you found all that out in one day. As far as living on the farm I honestly do think that would be a good move for you you would be able to enjoy what you say you are!
Sincerely,
Bianca

why I dont like the book
There are a few things that I do not like about this book simply because it does not seem to be an attention getter for me. One of the reasons that I did not care for this book is that it is not the traditional style of writing. I do not like how the book jumps back and forth. And the fact that it talks about how this boy comes up missing then jumps back to the beginning, she then touches a little on her family issues. I would have preferred if she would have just explained how she does not care for her family and how she is a freshman and then work her way up to the events of Zach’s death. Because this story jumps back and forth this makes my head hurt. It so boring how the story is making you wait till the end to find out what happens to Zach. This book makes Micah out to be a loony and she is not all clear about how she and Zach actually began. I guess I’m confused about how she is a liar, is the whole book a mimic of her imagination and does it all seem to be a lie…I don’t like the fact that we don’t know if she is crazy and making all this up or is this really a girl who is going through all these trials and trial and tribulations..I guess overall I am just confused and it is causing me to not care for the novel.

the character MICAH
Micah to me seems to be a little off. I say this because not only does the author have her jumping back in forth to tell her story but she mentions that lying is a disease that runs in her family. The way she tells her invents in the order they happen is very weird. She mentions that to be unseen and ignored she wears a mask not to mention that her freshman year she is mistaken by a teacher for a boy and she figures it would be cool to go along with it. Its like she is screaming to be a social outcast in school. Then because she lies the whole class often blurts out that she is a freak and a murder this is of course after, but not only does the character Brandon out her about her secret relationship with Zach, it seems off because the way she describes how they met and the things that she say they do looking at icicles and then he moves close to her to later on end up kissing her, its like she describing something that she is imagining and it very weired and off to me. When she claims to where the mask its like she is not wearing the mask it seems as though she is just describing how once again in her imagination in order to avoid being heard she makes us think she wheres this mask. Its also weird that Brandon keeps hunting back to her being Zach killer almost as if the book will reveal that she was a stalker she also mentions that Zach never looked at her and never spoke Micah seems to me to fall in-love with him silently not because he didn't speak but because he was the one that didn't tease her and I still feel that this thing she is slowly revealing between the two is all in her head. Which brings me to my conclusion of why I think Micah is off ...I think she is suffering from some of metal disease maybe bi-polar or schizophrenia

Week 3 What reading means to me
Reading to me is somewhat difficult when you have other things in life that are going on. When I read I sometimes get lost in what I am reading depending on my mood and the type of literature that I am reading. Depending on what I am reading my thoughts may vary from time to time I like to read things that have characters I can conect with. Reading should have a higher priority in my life because as a child I read all the time and often was considered to be a book nerd. As a child some of my favorite novels were Charlote's Web, The Baby-sitter collection, and American girl. Today I like to read more modern types of genres those that closely relate to realilty and novels based on true stories.
